FAQs

When and where is Maifest?

Oktoberfest at Des Moines Biergarten will be held May 16–17, at Water Works Park within the Des Moines Biergarten footprint under the trees east of the Lauridsen Amphitheater (2251 George Flagg Parkway).

Is it free and open to everyone?

Yes! Our Maifest celebration is free to attend, open to all ages, and dog-friendly—no admission required.

What are the hours?

We’ll be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What can I expect?

A lively fall edition of your favorite Biergarten experience: live music, a broader lineup of German and local beers, food vendors, and traditional games and competitions such as stein‐holding and Maipole dancing. This is an outdoor event so dress accordingly.

Family‐friendly?

Absolutely. Kids are welcome to participate in the fun, while adults can enjoy the Biergarden vibe. We make sure it stays inclusive and laid-back.

Where can I park or arrive?

Parking is available in the lots south of the Lauridsen Amphitheater, and we’re also located adjacent to the Water Works bike trail. Restrooms and potter potties will also be available.

Can I bring my own chair, blanket, or games?

Yes. Feel free to bring lawn chairs, blankets, hammocks, and refillable water bottles. We also provide picnic tables.

Is payment cash or card?

The Biergarten food truck and bars will accept card only. No cash. Purchases are accepted via credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

Who is behind this Maifest?

The event is organised by Orvi Horatio Group, the resturant group behind Des Moines Biergarten. The event is in coordination with the Water Works Park Foundation—a partnership building on the Biergarten's German-themed beer garden experience. A portion of proceeds from Oktoberfest will benefit the Water Works Park Foundation.
